About Cold Freeze

Four decades keeping New Jersey cold, running, and open for business.

Frank Ferraj founded Cold Freeze Technologies in 1984 and has spent 40+ years in the trade. Since opening, the company has logged 20,000+ commercial service calls, installed 500+ walk-in coolers and freezers, and put in 1,500+ commercial and residential HVAC systems across New Jersey and the NY metro — the same hands-on standard still runs every job we put a tech on today.

We service Hussmann, True, Heatcraft, Manitowoc, Hoshizaki, Beverage-Air, Carrier, Trane, Lennox, Goodman, Rheem, York, and most other commercial refrigeration and HVAC brands — for restaurants, food processors, hotels, warehouses, and industrial facilities across Monmouth, Middlesex, Union, Essex, Hudson, and Ocean counties plus Staten Island, Brooklyn, and Newark. Industrial customers include Anderson International Foods and Summerset Syrup. Fully licensed (NJ #13VH03913000), EPA 608 Universal certified, insured, workers’-comp covered. Warranties run 1–5 years on walk-in systems, 5–10 years on new HVAC, 1 year on labor.

“When a restaurant’s walk-in goes down, every minute is money. We answer the phone, we show up on-site within four hours, and we fix it right the first time. Forty years of doing it this way.” — Frank Ferraj, Owner

Common Questions

What restaurant owners actually ask us

Forty years in the trade means Frank has heard every question. These are the real ones — answered straight.

Nine times out of ten it's one of three things: a dirty condenser coil starving the compressor, a refrigerant leak that's dropped the charge below operating pressure, or a failed evaporator fan motor. Frank has seen all three kill a walk-in right before a weekend rush. A condenser cleaning is $180–$240. A refrigerant recharge runs $300–$600. If the compressor itself is done, that's a different conversation — but we'll tell you straight whether it's worth replacing or time for a new box.
On-site within 4 hours for any 24/7 commercial refrigeration emergency in our service area. We're based in Aberdeen Township — off the Parkway and Route 35. Most Monmouth County jobs are 20–35 minutes. Middlesex County is 30–45 minutes. Staten Island and Brooklyn run 45–70 minutes depending on traffic. Emergency calls get answered by a real tech, not an answering service.
Refrigeration: Hussmann, True, Heatcraft, Manitowoc, Hoshizaki, Beverage-Air, Traulsen, Master-Bilt, Continental, Turbo Air, Federal Industries, Scotsman, Ice-O-Matic. HVAC: Carrier, Trane, Lennox, York, Goodman, Rheem, American Standard, Bryant, Mitsubishi, Daikin. If you have a major commercial brand we haven't listed, call — odds are we work on it too.
General rule: if the repair cost is more than half the replacement cost and the unit is 10+ years old, replacing is usually smarter math. A new compressor on a 15-year-old walk-in is a gamble — you fix the compressor, then the evaporator coil goes six months later. Frank will give you both numbers before you decide. No pressure either way.
Yes. NJ HVAC-R Master License #13VH03913000, EPA 608 Universal certified for refrigerant handling, fully insured, and workers'-comp covered — every tech, every job. This matters more than people realize: an unlicensed contractor's work can void your health department approval and your building insurance.
Since Frank Ferraj founded the company in 1984: 20,000+ commercial service calls completed, 500+ walk-in coolers and freezers installed, 1,500+ HVAC system installations across NJ, NY, and PA. Anderson International Foods and Summerset Syrup are active industrial-scale clients.
Walk-in refrigeration systems carry 1–5 year parts warranties. New HVAC equipment (Carrier, Lennox, York, Trane) comes with the manufacturer's 5–10 year warranty, and we back our labor for 1 year on top of that. Frank walks through exactly what's covered before any install — nothing buried in the fine print.
Yes. We run the cooling and heating plants for Anderson International Foods and Summerset Syrup, plus warehouse cooling and ventilation at industrial scale. Process chillers, glycol systems, blast chillers, large-tonnage HVAC. If you're running a food-processing facility or large cold-storage operation, call us — most NJ contractors won't touch that scope.
Quarterly inspections: condenser cleaning, refrigerant pressure check, evaporator coil inspection, belt and bearing check, temperature log review, and a written service report each visit. Clients on maintenance contracts get priority scheduling during emergencies — your call jumps the queue. Most contracts run $280–$520/quarter depending on how many units.
Full install: hood (Type I or II per NFPA 96), makeup-air unit, exhaust fan, fire suppression rough-in coordination, and code-compliance paperwork. We've done hoods for pizza shops, full-service restaurants, and school cafeterias across NJ. Code here is Type I for cooking equipment producing grease-laden vapors — we file the right permits and don't cut corners.
No charge. Frank comes to your restaurant, food plant, or facility, walks the equipment, and gives you a straight number — parts, labor, and timeline — before any work starts. Most estimates run 30–60 minutes on-site. No commitment required and no service call fee just to assess.

Frank will look at what you have, tell you what it actually needs, and give you a straight number. Most estimates run 30–60 minutes on-site.
