Furnace & AC Changeouts — Cold Freeze Technologies NJ

When does an old furnace or AC need to be replaced?

Furnaces: 18–20 years is end-of-life for most residential gas furnaces. A heat exchanger crack is a replacement conversation — cracked heat exchangers mean combustion gases into the supply air, which is a carbon monoxide risk. AC condensers: 12–15 years for most residential units. If the refrigerant is R-22 (discontinued), replacement is almost always smarter than repair — R-22 recovery now runs $80–$130/lb. Frank will give you the honest number and let you decide.

What's included in a furnace or AC changeout

Removal and disposal of old equipment, installation of new equipment, refrigerant line evaluation (replacement if deteriorated), electrical upgrade if needed, condensate drain inspection and update, thermostat upgrade, permit pull and inspection. Most residential AC condensers + air handler changeouts run $4,200–$8,500 fully installed with permit. Furnace changeouts: $2,800–$5,500. Fixed price before work starts.

Same-week scheduling across NJ

When your AC dies in August or your furnace quits in January, scheduling matters. Cold Freeze Technologies can usually do residential changeouts within 3–5 business days. Equipment availability is the constraint — popular sizes are in stock at local distributors; unusual tonnages or high-efficiency tiers may take a few extra days to source. We confirm availability before we quote a timeline.

"Most contractors do refrigeration OR HVAC. We do both — plus ductwork fabrication, kitchen exhaust, warehouse ventilation, and industrial-scale cooling. One call, one crew, one licensed contractor who stands behind the work."

Common questions about furnace & ac changeouts

Standard efficiency (80%) gas furnace changeout: $2,800–$4,200 installed. High efficiency (95%+): $3,800–$5,500 installed. Prices include permit, installation, and old unit removal. Duct modifications add cost if needed.
Residential AC condenser + air handler (full system): $4,200–$8,500 installed with permit. Condenser-only replacement (keeping compatible air handler): $2,800–$4,800. Mini-split single zone: $3,200–$5,800.
Yes — one of the most common changeout calls we get. R-22 systems can't be recharged economically anymore ($80–$130/lb at current prices). We replace with modern R-410A or R-32 systems sized to match the home's actual load. We'll walk you through both options honestly.
Yes — all permitted, all inspected. NJ requires permits for HVAC system replacements. Unpermitted work creates issues when you sell the house and during insurance claims. Every changeout we do is by the book.
